eishi and Randy on Route 66
Letting you know where we are on our roadtrip

So nice to spend some time with friends part way through our trip.

This Oklahoma section was used pre-1937. You can see the curbs on both sides of this 9-ft wide road. We went slow.

Yup, the inspiration for the Cars tow truck… And the owner of the store is crazy friendly. We’ve stopped at The Cafe on the Route for lunch (a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives place). Kansas is treating us fabulous!

This place in Springfield has been around since the ’30′s and lived up to it’s name, it was a haven in the storm.

Today we should make it the rest of the way through Missou, quickly through Kansas and into Oklahoma (which is where the idea of Route 66 originated and why it dips down so far instead of being a straight shot to California).

(This picture is more to remind eishi about the name of this place so she can look on the web for sauce next beer party. Yeah, it’s that good.)

Today was a lot of rain, so no good pictures later. We pretty much pointed out the window and admired the sights. We barely missed the hail but got some serious water dumped on us. At least it wasn’t the snow we hear is near some of y’all.

They didn’t take the bait and they’re not hoppin’. But they made us smile all the same.

Turns out it rained or was overcast all day but we got a chance to see some things, including the arch at St Louis. Then we had some great Italian food at Charlie Gitto’s on The Hill (the only place around there open on a Sunday… But, mmmm so tasty). We’re now on our way through Missouri.

I jumped on the pumps, but they wouldn’t work for me.

The third, and probably the last, “muffler man.” And, yes, it’s now raining.

This is where we stayed in Springfield (I made a new friend at the front desk).

This guy’s the second of the “muffler men” and is in Atlanta (pretty sure that’s the Illinois version). He used to be closer to Chicago (by a hot dog drive through) but was saved from a grisly fate by relocating.
